The Most Loving Kitty I've Ever Known

Today this little angel is turning 9 years old. I remember like it was yesterday when we brought him home. He was super skinny and his fur was a mess, but he wasn't scared the whole time we drove home 2+ hours from the countryside Pennsylvania. He purred on my lap, putting his cold nose against mine and touching my face with his little paws. He was named the Lover Boy then. Although halfway through the drive we came up with a name Moses. We already had Miina at home and we just thought those two names go well together. 
What else to say about Moses... He quickly grew from skinny baby to a muscular, big-pawed pitbull cat. He is extremely vocal, social, loving, foodie, snugglesome cat. He is also rambunctious and nonobedient. I cannot talk on the phone without him screaming his lungs out or if I concentrate on the computer too much he will start jumping on the kitchen counters (which he very well knows is not allowed in our house) to get attention from me. He sleeps on me and as soon as he hears my eyes open (how does he hear it?!) he will come and bite my nose if I try to pretend I'm still asleep. That's our Moses and we wish him the best birthday with treats, lots of playtime and snuggles. We love you baby!

Blonde Beauty Truffles

After doing a spring cleanse I wanted to find healthier sweet treats going forward, preferably homemade. I started browsing through all my cookbooks and found this recipe from Kimberly Snyder's Beauty Detox Power. They took just 5 minutes to make and they stay good in the fridge or freezer for a long while. Mine only lasted about 3 days because both I and husband couldn't stay away from them. I also brought one to work each day to have as a healthy snack.
 Blonde Beauty Truffles 
(about 12 truffles)


2 cups unsweetened coconut flakes
2/3 cup ground raw almonds
2 tablespoons maple syrup
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp sea salt
cinnamon to taste (my own addition)


-Process the coconut flakes in a food processor to make a powder. Add the ground almonds and pulse to combine. Add maple syrup, coconut oil, canilla extract abd sea salt, and process again to blend well. 

-Roll the coconut-almond mixture into balls the size of gum balls and arrange them on a plate. Cover and refrigerate for at least 10 mins before serving so they harden and chill slightly.

Supplements I take

I feel very energized after doing a spring cleanse. According to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine the spring and fall seasons provide the best opportunities for deeply detoxifying and cleansing the body of harmful impurities that have collected in our organs and tissues over the past months. My simple cleansing tips to get you started right a way are to increase the intake of organic green vegetables, limiting high sugar fruits and boosting liquid consumption (clean water, herbal teas, or vegetable soups or broth). 

I went a little further and did 30 day cleanse eliminating gluten, sugar, coffee, yeast and dairy. I got a little cleansing help from Candigone (herbal tincture and capsules) as well as Hepasil DTX, probiotics and digestive enzymes from USANA. I don't take lots of supplements because I eat quite well-balanced diet filled with veggies but there's three products that I like to use year round and they are B-12, Probiotics and Hepasil DTX.
Probiotics support healthy digestion and sound immune function. I have some digestive issues (mainly constipation and bloating at times) and my Homeopath suggested significant increase taking in probiotic foods and supplements. I take one pack of USANA probiotics in the morning mixed in my first glass of water in the morning, another two packets throughout the day and a fourth pack before going to bed. This blend contains Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG® and Bifidobacterium BB-12®, two strains of specific probiotic bacteria clinically proven to survive the harsh acidic environment of the stomach (dairy- and sugar-free). 

Without adequate blood levels of B12, you can experience symptoms related to low energy, mental fatigue, mood changes, sleep difficulties, and even occasional indigestion. I use methylcobalamin spray that absorbs immediately under your tongue.

This product helps your liver to detox. Your liver performs a number of functions vital to maintaining good health, including filtering almost everything that goes into your blood stream. This product is a proprietary combination of milk thistle extract, choline, and alpha lipoic acid to ensure optimum potency. Great for everyday detoxing! 
Winter additions:
Contrary to popular belief, Vitamin C doesn't prevent colds and flu, but it can reduce the length and severity of symptoms. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant. This means it protects the body against disease including heart disease and cancer. It is vital for the production of collagen, used to build body tissue and bones. If you eat a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables every day you will have a balanced intake of vitamin C.

We need ten to 15 minutes of direct sunlight on unprotected skin several times a week from May to September to make enough Vitamin D to see us through the winter. But Vitamin D is stored for only between one and two months in the body. Therefore levels start to drop and by January almost everyone living in areas that don't get year round sunshine, will have below optimum levels. The body needs Vitamin D to absorb calcium, which is essential for bone health, among many other vital functions.

Oil of Oregano is one of the most powerful natural antifungals, but also has antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps reduce oxidative stress, supports a healthy immune system, normal respiratory and digestive function. It is an excellent supplement to take when fighting candida.

5 Favorites Of The Week

SALADS. Yup, I'm still going hard on the salad kick. It has just become the easiest and almost joyful way to get lunch.dinner on the table. Throw things together in a big salad bowl, add homemade dressing (=avocado) and feel light and happy. Get salad inspiration from this book!
CHIA PUDDING. I was eating oatmeal all winter-long and now that summer is here it's time to transition to something lighter. Chia puddings are the perfect breakfast topped with whatever fruits or berries you have at home. I also like to add raw cacao nibs and bee pollen to mine to give it an extra nutritional punch.
KOMBUCHA. When I want to party, but not drink alcohol, Kombucha steps in. It's festive, bubbly, delicious, yet good for you. If you can drink alcohol, add a splash of vodka! It's still a better option than mixing you liquor with fruit juices or soda.
SUPERFOODS. My sister was recently visiting New York and brought some Finnish superfoods with her. I haven't really experimented with mushrooms before, but these drinkable Reishi and Chaga powders are very powerful immune and hormone balance boosting magic drinks. No hallucinations included! Mushrooms contain some of the most powerful natural medicines on the planet. Many medicinal mushrooms having strong anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Order them all here. Wild Blueberry and Sea Buckthorn powders are old favorites and go to my homemade kefirs, smoothies and even baked goods.
NUTRITIONAL YEAST. Also known as nooch. I sprinkle it on pretty much any savory food (especially pasta) including salads. Nooch is rich in B vitamins, which are especially important to your body to maintain a good food metabolism, a healthy nervous system and to help your body regenerate red blood cells. This is my favorite brand.
