During the 30-day Candida cleanse and quitting sugar I've been thinking about my relationship to sweets. Growing up we were allowed to eat candy once a week on Saturdays ("Candy Day") and drink small bottle of soda during sauna night which was also once per week. I wasn't big on cookies or cakes even when I did one year training in baking school and had the opportunity to eat as many free cakes and cinnamon buns as I wanted. But as I've gotten older I have started craving for sweets, especially at work. Which makes me think it is because I dislike my day job and I'm looking to treat myself for dealing with it. That may be the case, but here are two easy ways I use to silence the cravings:
1. Eat fermented foods and drink probiotic beverages
My favorite fermented foods are kimchi and sauerkraut. They are sour, easy to make, and affordable. Probiotic beverages like water kefir and kombucha also taste sour and a small dosage goes a long way. All these foods and beverages are full of beneficial bacteria, and fermented foods not only give you a wider variety of beneficial bacteria, they also give you far more of them.
It’s unusual to find a probiotic supplement containing more than 10 billion colony-forming units. But when fermented vegetables were tested, they had 10 trillion colony-forming units of bacteria. Meaning, that one serving of vegetables was equal to an entire bottle of a high potency probiotic. So clearly, you’re far better off using fermented foods than pills.
2. Eat sour foods
