PREPARING FOR HURRICANE SANDY

As Sandy approaches we're doing the minimum to get ready if things get bad. Our main concern is flooding since this apartment has known to flood in the past, although the managing company says they've fixed it with a brand new sump pump. But we'll see how much water it can handle. We live right by a little river, which might become a huge river. Luckily we are on top of a hill so if it floods we'll be the last apartment it'll reach.
Today we ran to the dollar store to get few more candles, batteries for the radio and flashlight and some water in case we lose power. I'm not sure if my job plans to be open tomorrow, haven't heard anything from them, so I'll just wait until the morning and see what the officials are saying. I won't risk anything for that job... Plus my job is just two blocks from Hudson River that might flood as well. Plus they're closing down pretty much all transportation options we have so my only way to travel would be my husband's car.
Our fruit needs I took care already on Thursday when I received this huge delivery. Yum!
Our Brita-tank provides us water for at least two days and we got some bottled water as well.
We also secured our patio furniture and the grill just in case things get very windy.
Saaandyyyy, we're waiting for you....

Hurrikaani Sandy lähestyy meitä pikkuhiljaa ja olemme tehneet minimin valmistuaksemme siihen että asiat menevät huonosti. Suurin huolenaiheemme on tulviminen, koska asuntomme on tulvinut aiemminkin (edellisen vuokralaisen aikana), vaikka asuntoyhtiö onkin vakuuttanut, että ongelma on korjattu uuden pumpun avulla.

  2. Thanks Nisha! We're prepared (kind of) for the worst and hoping this is all just a big exaggeration. Like Irene was.

  3. I hope you'll be alright! My husband and I arrived on Maui last night and the first thing we heard was this extremely loud siren. As we rented a car they told us there had been a big earthquake somewhere and they're expecting a tsunami to hit all Hawaiian islands. Not exactly a dream start for a vacation!!

Our condo is right on the beach and there were firemen and police officers driving around the streets, shouting on speakers to tell everyone to evacuate. We were scared (well, at least I was, my husband was quite calm) but even more tired of the flights, and we decided to stay in our 3rd floor apartment. Our neighbours (who had lived here for 30 years) were not that worried and thought it would be safe. So we stayed put, and there was no big wave after all. Thank goodness.

Be safe and take care of each other!

  4. Hui! Toivottavasti teillä on siellä kaikki hyvin!
