I bought this dress years and years ago from T.J.Maxx close to nothing, but was never able to wear it at work because of the all-black dress code. I like the sleek feminine lines very much, the length (long enough) and the thick fabric. What I don't like is that it is dry clean only. It's a whole lot of money and coordination so I prefer not to do it at all. Modern washers with gentle cycles are often suitable for most items you'd consider dry clean only (not including fur and leather). On top of using the gentle cycle I also place it in a big mesh washing bag and let air dry instead of the dryer.

This is the recipe for those delicious Master Cleanse Tinis I made last weekend for my husband's birthday. The recipe is from Pure Food and Wine restaurant through the Kind Life website.

Master Cleanse Tinis

1 1/2 cups sake
1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 cup filtered water
2/3 cup maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup coarse crystal date sugar

Combine all the ingredients except the date sugar in a bowl or other container and mix to thoroughly combine.

Place the date sugar in a shallow bowl or small plate.

Wet the rims of the martini glasses and dip them into the date sugar, as you would if you were salting the rims of glasses for a traditional margarita.

Shake the liquid over ice in a martini shaker and pour into the martini glasses.

Husband grew one year older this weekend and I was in charge of organizing something fun. I made Master Cleanse Tinis to start the night off festive, which is my favorite cocktail.
We went for an early dinner at our local Cuban restaurant that has very festive atmosphere and something for every taste. I've taken you there before, when it was beautiful hot summer day.
White and red sangria, of course.
This is my first time trying this dish, vegetarian paella, and oh my gosh, it was super delicious and so flavorful. I will have to go back for it.
At the end of our dinner we were greeted with hale.
After dinner we headed back to our house for some cake (raspberry and chocolate) and champagne.
 And coconut macaroons.
We had fun night playing Taboo, laughing a lot, eating sweets and drinking bubbly. Good times!
And then we'll just wait for my birthday next... Soon! Have a beautiful week!

It's husband's birthday this weekend so we'll celebrate a little. Good foods, cake, maybe a cocktail or two, family and friends. Have a happy weekend!

The other night husband and I were watching a TV show called "My cat from hell" and got very impressed by a stray cat that learned to sit on command in a very short period of time. There and then I decided that our cats should know how to do that. Just because they are so dog-like already anyway (beg treats, drink from the toilet bowl, play catch, greet you with loud meows when coming home etc). No instant results here, but we'll keep working on it. Cats sleep an average 16 hours a day and when they don't, you got to make sure they get enough exercise. I play with my cats every day, no matter how pressed on time I am. Even if it's just 5 minutes. I mean, c'mon, everyone has 5 minutes to dedicate for some play time. When you look at what cats do in the wild, it is obvious why they need to play. Play releases anxiety and boredom, creates a good feeling and bonding as well as gives them healthy dose of exercise. Your cat deserves it, right?

My recipe, or two, a week cooking experiment has started off well. I cooked the Seitan Scallopini that was wonderful, even I didn't have all the ingredients. But I tend to be very creative in the kitchen and NEVER follow the recipes 100% so even this recipe got changed a bit. First of all, I used tempeh instead of seitan, and panko breadcrumbs to bread the cutlets that I cut very thin instead of using the thickness they come in the package (I used Trader Joe's tempeh). Then, I did not have kale, so I used broccoli instead. Kale is my favorite, but I didn't feel like running to the store after my hot yoga class anymore so I used what we had in the house. I made the mashed potatoes from the scratch and added some himalayan salt, garlic and earth balance for taste. Yummy!
Earlier in the week I was in contact with the good peoples of my favorite vegan blog "The Vegan Stoner" requesting for permission to share some of their delicious recipes and photos, because they are so easy and fun to prepare. I've been following the blog for a while now and collected few favorites along the way that I've added to my "list of things to cook".

During weekends I usually wake up hungry (sometimes because of the wine I've had the night before or just because I slept late) and regular breakfast alone(green smoothie)just isn't cutting it for me. I love bread, especially the real rye one from Finland, so my weekend breakfast is usually an easy sandwich made with bacon flavored tempeh(!), lettuce/cucumber, avocado, tomato and spicy pepper flavored miso mayo (vegan). I toast the bread, then fry the tempeh in coconut oil, use smashed avocado as a butter on  both pieces of the bread and add the rest of the veggies raw. Yum!
Beautiful table after finishing our meal...
Husband and I love Korean food and travel distances to find it  because our neighborhood doesn't have any Korean restaurants. I always get the same thing because I really don't believe there's anything that could possibly be better than Kimchi Jigae (made without meat for me). These are the simple pleasures we treat ourselves with during quiet weekends.

Wonderful long weekend ahead of us. So many plans, aspirations and ideas on how to spend it, what I need to get done and where I need to go. That's what I'll be doing at work today, planning. My job has all of a sudden become really slow with not much to do so therefore I use my time creatively designing products for my business (I'm a founder and CEO of my own imaginary company), writing a lot, making to do-lists and searching for good vegan recipes to cook. Oh, and I won something in my life finally. Theraneem Organix has little raffles on their Facebook page every now and then and I was the lucky one winning their Argan Body Butter which I use for my lips, because I'm always on the lookout for great lip balms that you don't have to reapply a million times during the day. So far I've been very happy with this one. No reapplying necessary.
I attended Gabrielle Bernstein's MediDating lecture and CD release party at ABC Carpet's Deepak HomeBase last week and got her guided meditation CD. Plan is to get it on my Ipod this weekend so I can start doing the exercises while on the train or the bus. Get it for under 10 bucks here. I have my notes from the event and will share them soon if I can make some sense from my writing...
This is us on a regular night at home. Tonight is not going to be different either. I got laptop and two lapcats on my lap. It's one busy lap. I love my little snuggle bunnies. And yes, I'm afraid of the electromagnetic radiation from the laptop near my reproductive organs.
I wish you all a fun-filled weekend!

Last Saturday husband and I attended a celebration and the marriage of two very sweet people; Annabella and Jim. Event was held in Almar Restaurant in Dumbo, Brooklyn and the entire venue was sprinkled with hip beautiful people, great beats, delicious vegan food and classic cocktails.
I had trouble finding the right type of outfit since the dress code was "cocktail attire" and I really didn't want to wear just another little black dress. Although I saw some amazing ones that night worn by the guests at the party. I'm trying to slowly move away from too much black and therefore I wanted the dress to be either yellow or pink.
And pink is what I found. And I got an amazing deal. Originally $198+tax, marked down to $69, but when I got to the register the price came down to $35! Hello unexpected surprise sales! I actually thought I was buying a midi skirt (yeah, didn't try it on), but when I got home I noticed it was a dress. Sleeveless. And sleeveless never stays up. So I'm going to try to make it into a skirt at some point. I also found a matching hair accessory to complete my dreamy ballerina look.

Vaikka näinkin illan aikana joitakin uskomattoman kauniita pikkumustia juhlijoiden paalla.

I forgot when or why I started obsessing over fresh squeezed lemon juice, but I think it's been few years now. Fresh squeezed lemon has such different flavor than those bottled ones you get from the store. I actually keep a big glass bottle of water on my kitchen counter spiced up with some fresh lemon juice and make sure before the day is over I've finished it. Why I keep it on the counter is because I don't like to drink anything too cold. And refrigeration makes it too cold for me. Doesn't feel nice on my throat. I'm just weird like that, I guess.
I love my retro citrus juicer
Lemons are filled with flavor, while delivering an extra blast of vitamin C and enzymes. Lemon has been associated with boosting liver’s function and tissue regeneration, which is helpful while cleansing, as the liver is our main detoxifying organ.
To maximize cleansing benefits, get into the habit of drinking one hot mug of water with the juice of half a lemon squeezed in, first thing in the morning. Refresh yourself throughout the day with cool lemon water. Source
Let's get lemonized!
