Last Sunday I attended my first ever baby shower. None of my friends in the US have kids yet, but it seems like everyone I know in Finland already has a few at least. So I was very excited about this baby party and even had to Google the baby shower etiquette, because I had no idea what to do and what to expect. Cake was done by the lovely Gracie
Photos above by Gracie.
We ate, chatted, played games, watched Rob tear a NYC phonebook in half in 20 seconds, did one arm push-ups and the other usual stuff people do at baby showers.
Sippy cup chug competition with iced tea. Guys won, of course...
I won Guess the size of Mommy's Tummy! I never win anything so you can see how sincerely happy I was.
We gave some great advice for the mommy-to-be. Like "Try not to drop the baby".
She also got tons of lovely gifts, but I think the winner and the stunner of the night was the Bugaboo. I learned during the course of the night that these Bugaboos are the "it" accessory for the modern NYC mamas. So all and all besides being a fun night, it was also very educational one.

The long-awaited event has occured; I attended the Cupcake Tea at Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park. And oh yeah, my friend Tricia is expecting a baby boy and had her pre-baby shower party there which is why I was around.
The Star Room is very cozy and sophisticated and our waitress was the bomb who knew how to make a mean chai tea.
We were each served five cute mini cupcakes which was way more than I felt comfortable eating. I was over stuffed, but just kept eating because that's what I do when something is delicious. The tea was good as well. I had an Afternoon Tea which was a mixture of green and black teas, but they also had some more exciting sounding options as well, like the Mad Hatters Tea Party (or something like that).

This clock found it's way from Finland to us in my mom's suitcase. Oh mom, I love you so.
Our "bar" that's quite empty at the moment. The blue Mariskooli bowl holds matchsticks, another crystal bowl holds our scented candles and random little vase holds incense.
We have two fireplaces on the first floor; one in the formal living room and the other just around the corner in the TV room. There's quite no other mood setter like the burning firewood.
Tiny incense cone burning Buddha. This lamp might remind you of Pentik's stacked ball lamp that we have in our bedroom, but I actually found this at K-Mart for pennies...
Random people running around our house... Never a peaceful day...;)
P.S. Try this new way to get invited to private sales.

The other night we went to see the play Purge at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club in East Village and before the show enjoyed some excellent vegetarian dinner nearby at Angelica Kitchen
For appetizer we had Agrarian Salgado which is basically mashed potato-seitan rounds with parsley-almond pesto center, dill-tofu sour cream on top and a side of marinated kale.
For main course I had Well Cultured salad that had mix of seasonal greens, watercress, homemade kimchee, nori strips and toasted sesame seeds. Delicious and filling.
My friend Heidi had their Three Bean Chili made with pinto and kidney beans, seitan, lentils, sun dried tomatoes, chili blend and jalapeno-tofu sour cream served with a side of fluffy corn bread. We were too stuffed to have dessert so we just took a walk down to La Mama and enjoyed the show. I personally must have liked it, because I was able to sit still for 2 hours and didn't get very bored. And I got to see Peter Franzen completely exposed...

On the other side of our master suite, right next to the bathroom and den area is my closet.
I had planned getting rid of that monster cubicle from Ikea and put in closet organizer that I had already purchased from Rubbermaid, but it turns out that the wall between the closet and the bathroom is just a very thin piece of plywood and cannot support it. Therefore I still have the Ikea monster. I installed a metal pole on top of it that goes from wall to wall to hang all my shirts.
Dresses, long shirts and cardigans go to this smaller clothing rack.
This Marimekko container holds all my bigger bracelets. Once again, thank you mom.

Work. Here I'm about to be done with my duties and leave which is why I'm smiling.
After work had some Finn fun.
Female Artist Club Series that's held every Wednesday at the Salmagundi Club.
My favorite piece of art from the Club. Poor Mickey. He looks happy though.
Don't you just love this darling pink bathroom?
I continued the night with my friend, the Queen of Babylon, and we stumbled in to this handsome old world bar appropriately called the Old World Bar that's been serving thirsty New Yorkers since 1892. And it served us well too.
