I don't have too much to say about the holidays since both I and the man have been very sick for the past week or more and not too happy about it. My bug was even worse than his and after 2 weeks of fever and bad cough I finally agreed to see a doctor and get antibiotics, which by the way, I've never taken before in my life.
I'm slowly getting better, just in time to go back to work after this lovely "vacation" that was meant to be spent in the wine country California enjoying the sun and wine. :(
Since we were sick we didn't eat anything christmasy but miso and some other hot and spicy soups. I really had no appetite and when I went to the doc I had lost ten pounds! Need to put that back on asap... I tried to put on the cheery face for the kids on xmas eve and we opened few gifts, but was too exhausted to stay up for more than 30 minutes at a time.
Of course we also had the snow blizzard of the year happening the same time and we were quickly buried under two feet of snow.
Yesterday though, I found some hidden energy from somewhere deep within when I was woken up from my 6 hour nap and asked if I wanted to go see Prince at Madison Square Garden, for free. Hell yeah I did and had an amazing night in our own private suite box rocking and getting funky with the vegetarian Prince. He is truly a star. What an amazing artist. Love, love, love, love.
So there were some good moments during these blurry sickly two weeks and I can't wait to feel 100% healthy again.
I wish you all had wonderful holidays and got to spend time with your loved ones!

I've started using Organic Argan Oil for my dry face and the split ends of my hair...
Celebrated the 6th anniversary of our first date with delicious peppermint mousse mini cake. Wow, time just flies...
Getting over a cold using natural remedies such as Oil of Oregano, teas, vitamins...
... and tons of vegetables and fruits.
Finished all my xmas shopping and gift wrapping. Whew!
Took two days off work due to losing my voice (I really sounded like Rod Stewart) and spent some quality time with the kitties.

What about you?

This year was somehow easy to come up with gifts for him and I might have gone a little overboard. I think one gift is totally fine for grown ups, ten a bit much. I guess that means someone's been a good boy...
Just in case you are reading this Marcus, STOP, because here comes a spoiler, I'm revealing your gifts. So here we go. I got him double-breasted military cardigan from Express , memory foam slippers, plaid pajamas, gorgeous dark orange winter scarf from Zara, black faux leather wristbands from Aldo (very rock 'n' roll), black rhodium sterling silver rosary necklace, silver dog tag necklace, Canon HD camcorder with 8GB memory card and bass guitar for beginners instructional DVD.  Hope he likes them. If not, seven of those items are things that I would love to own too, so... Not a problem. ;)
I also might go visit one of our local tattoo parlors to check them out and might get a gift card there... And if I see iTunes gift card anywhere before Saturday that might have to be bought too. Music is always a great gift.

Somehow I stumbled upon Live Live & Organic some weeks ago when looking for organic facial lotions. Live Live & Organic has been embraced as the best store for raw, organic, live, vegetarian & health products.  Reviews of their Bee Yummy Skin Food were so positive that I started hunting for the product all over the internet, but could not get it because it was out of stock EVERYWHERE. Until now.
When I received an email from Live Live saying they had Skin Food in stock again I ran straight to their East Village store after work and bought it. It's made from Wildflower Honey, Honey Cappings, Bee Pollen, Propolis, St. John’s Wort Oil, Royal Jelly, Purified Water, and Balsam Fir Needles as fragrance. No preservatives are needed because Honey, Propolis, and Balsam Fir are the nature’s best preservatives and antibiotics. Honey is the only food on earth that will keep forever, and so will Bee Yummy cream. This is very moisturizing for dry winter skin and so natural you could eat it. I'm in love...

If you're looking for unique gifts for everyone you know I would just come to Union Square Holiday Market and get them all at once and be done.
T-shirts, jewelry, cold weather accessories, exotic home decorations, spices, teas, soaps,  lotions, potions and some more jewelry. Pieces that you don't see everyone wearing.

After walking around long enough we stopped at L'Annam, Vietnamese restaurant at University Place that offers huge family style portions,  low prices and unpretentious, fast service.
I got their "Designing dish" therefore I designed my own plate by choosing what veggies I wanted (water chestnuts, fried tofu, string beans, carrots, bell peppers), the way I wanted it to be made (sauteed) and what sauce it should be sauteed with (lemongrass). This was one of the most filling and delicious healthy under ten dollar meals I've ever had and it was just spicy enough. Highly recommend if you're in the area. Just don't go during lunch time because it gets packed with students.
Eat well,

This is a short version of what went down last weekend when my dear friend celebrated her birthday. It all started late afternoon in Brooklyn where we beautified for the evening and toasted few times with something bubbly.
We had our friend limo driver come pick us up and take us to the restaurant where we would meet up with the rest of the crew. We blasted music and sipped a little more some of that good champagne...
Traffic was horrendous getting back to Manhattan and we were one and half hours late for our 6.30pm reservation, but thankfully Calle Ocho was nice enough to hold our table for ten people. Otherwise we would've been in big trouble...  Try to find a big table on a Saturday night prime dining time in a really nice restaurant in Manhattan. Not an easy task.
None of us ever dined here before so we were taking a risk choosing it, but all I can say is that everything was absolutely fabulous. The space is grand and gorgeous, food as delicious as can be (a bit pricey though) and service very friendly and swift.
I had their outstanding spinach empanadas on a bed of guacamole salad for an appetizer and the "Vegetariano" for an entree (wild mushroom paella with sweet pea vinaigrette and greens). I would definitely for back for the delicious food. We also ordered two huge pitchers of red and white sangria for the table, but couldn't even finish them.
After the dinner we continued our night at a nearby lounge where the party was wild the moment we walked in the door. DJ was throwing killer tunes song after song and we witnessed some uncontrolled dance attacks. I have all that on video, but having some trouble editing it... During this night some viscous cold virus attacked me and I'm fighting to get healthy and 100% again. So far haven't take any time off work, but let's see how I feel tomorrow morning...

The cold has finally arrived and I just love sitting in the house and getting comfy with candles, homemade soups, teas, glogg and lying the couch with my snuggle buddies. It's hard to get me to go out even I know I should walk at least an hour every day. Which I don't. We get our veggies from Suburban Organics delivered right to our door so no need to go to the supermarket either.
Even I would love to keep doing this the entire weekend I can't because there are so many parties I'm expected to attend and they are all scheduled for tomorrow. First is my "nephew-in-law's" birthday party, then my neighbor is having a holiday party and last, but not least, very dear friend's birthday celebration and it's going to be a wild night knowing her. We got a limo driving us around town so stay tuned for a full report.
But tonight I will enjoy great company, good food (I made spicy butternut squash- yam puree soup, awesome peanut butter-kale, greek potatoes and vegan buffalo wings) and hopefully see a good movie at some point.
Someone was being a bad boy tonight and chewing the tree. Caught red-handed. Hence the guilty look on his face.
This is Miina's favorite spot in the house right now. Radiator behind the tree. It's so nice and toasty and provides great privacy as well. She is a loner sometimes.
There are my favorite candies, Ginger Chews from Ginger People. Have I ever mentioned how much I love ginger? There's nothing better than the ginger tingling in your mouth. It's like a drug to me. I also just discovered ginger crystals that melt instantly in hot or cold water and give a nice kick to my green tea. This time of the year when everyone around me seems to have catch the cold, it's good to remember that ginger is loaded with virus-fighting substances, including several that act directly against cold viruses.

Stay warm!

CSN Stores has over 200 online stores where you can find everything from stylish handbags, to modern extra tall bar stools, or great cookware!
When decking our house for the holidays the interior designer in me takes over and starts redesigning the whole place all over again. With my beer money and champagne taste I always find my way into the clearance sections of the stores and sometimes make some amazing finds if I'm lucky.
I came across CSN Stores and made few great finds like this Buddha Wall Art piece, or this gorgeous Sectional (we really need new couch, our Ikea couch broke down a year ago when "he" jumped on it...), anything from Iittala's Taika collection, I would love to decorate my walk in closet with Marimekko's Unikko Wallpaper and last but not least a Compact Dehydrator to make my own dried veggies and fruits. Think kale chips, pineapple crisps, dried kiwi, berries for my oatmeal etc. Possibilities are endless!
It's about time to start doing your holiday shopping so what are you waiting for? Don't be like me and leave it for xmas eve. Not a good experience, I tell ya...

I don't care too much for xmas, but I do like to decorate the house for the holidays.
I love burning tons of candles. Even better if they're eco candles made from organic soybean base and pure botanical oils. Deer candle holder is from Pentik.
This cheery fella my mother sent us last year is from Pentik as well. One of my favorite stores in Finland.
Our tree is silver and red this year. Last year we went with all silver, but this year I wanted to incorporate a little splash of red in it.
Of course I had to take a trip down to Ikea as well and get us some glogg (mulled wine). I just mix 1/2 red wine with 1/2 glogg and heat it up. Nothing tastes more xmas than glogg.
