It's been rainy and cold for the past few days and I've felt very uninspired to do anything but plan a trip out of here. My sister is coming here next month for few weeks (she lives in Finland) and we're going to take a trip down to the great old Grand Canyon. I've always wanted to go there and love the mountains just as much as I love the seaside, so this is one of my dreams coming true. 
During my lunch break today I bought Grand Canyon travel guide and been flipping through the pages since then. I just can't get enough of the scenery. I'm going to plan this trip very well and have a real itinerary on all the things that needs to be done and seen. Normally I don't plan my travels and just go with the flow, but you often miss things this way.
Relaxation tip of the day: I saw raving reviews of this product at Sephora and just had to get it. Rene Furterer - Complexe 5  stimulates blood circulation and increases the penetration of the treatment product (like the tea tree shampoo I use). It contains a high concentration of essential oils that purifies and regenerates the scalp. I love the scent and the scalp massage I make him to give me while applying the product makes me feel like I'm in heaven. Total relaxation.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry
a la Sarma of Pure Food and Wine
For 2

1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
1 cup frozen banana
1½ cups coconut water
1½ cups cashew milk  (OR, 3 cups of either one)
2 heaping tablespoons yacon powder
2 heaping tablespoons lucuma powder
1 heaping tablepsoon maca powder
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons agave nectar or pinch stevia (optional, if you like it extra sweet)
1 heaping tablespoon cacao powder (add for second half)

Put all the ingredients except the cocoa powder in the blender and blend. If it’s too thick add more coconut water or cashew milk. Taste and add agave or stevia if you want it sweeter (or, more lucuma). Fill two glasses halfway, using about half of what’s in the blender.

Add the cocoa powder to the remaining shake in the blender and blend. (add cacao nibs too if you like those in your shakes). Top off the glasses with the chocolate. It helps if you pour it gently around the inside perimeter of the glass (otherwise it will just fall straight down in the center and you won’t get the pretty layers). Put a raspberry or strawberry on top and sprinkle w/ cacao nibs. YUM.

The other night we took a visitor from Finland to the revolving rooftop restaurant/bar View on top of the Marriott Marquis hotel. I've done dinner here once with my family and was not happy with anything. Food was mediocre, service way below the bar and prices very high.
So I knew I probably shouldn't come back, but since it was her first time in NYC we did it. Cocktails were $16 a piece, tasted like juice and on top of that the waitress added her own 18% tip. Never again...
Place I would highly recommend for drinks is the Stone Street Historic District in downtown. Tons of bars and restaurants to choose from and great happy hour deals.
We chose Smorgas Chef, of course, and enjoyed Kopparberg cider and vegetarian meatballs with mashed potatoes, gravy and lingonberry jam. Soo good. I'm so happy they got the vegetarian version of this dish. More reasons to love the Swedes.

We had no Easter decorations, but I got something yellow for the house. And they are also good for you :)
Spring has made me once again very health conscious and got me eating lighter. I could just have liquid foods all day; raw juices, green tea, smoothies and soups. And some healthy snacks. I love candy, but since my last 3 dentist visits in the past 2 years I've had six cavities, I've given up candy since March 2010. I know, it's only been 2 weeks, but I've found some healthy options such as raw cacao nibs and dark chocolate to help me with my sugar cravings.
Berry smoothies are my favorites. I love all berries and whatever my local supermarket has on sale I mix in with my smoothie. My dear old friend Magic Bullet is really about to die now after one of the mixing cups opened up and all the juice got inside it. So it may be necessary for me to take a trip down to the store and buy a new one. 
My Easter morning smoothie included blackberries (love 'em!), coconut water with pulp, vanilla soy yogurt and one whole banana (who didn't want to be photographed). 
Moses was able to get a good taste of this smoothie before I noticed what he was doing. This cat eats everything. And by everything I mean EVERYTHING. Luckily there's not much junk food in our house...
This deliciousness is fair trade certified dark chocolate peppermint bark I got from Whole Foods. Whenever sugar craving hits me I take a small bite.
Easter weekend was really warm so the whole family (his side of course, mine are on the other side of the world) had brunch at a restaurant and then we took frozen yogurts and ice creams to go and had a nice walk around the park. I wore my old Lilly Pulitzer dress because I don't get the chance to wear it too often. The colors are just so bright, but perfect for Easter. 
This dress was given to me when I worked Lilly's private luncheon at the Meadow Club of Southampton in the Hamptons many years ago (see photo below).

I met up with my friend Susanna after work for some dessert at Le Pain Quotidien. We hadn't seen each other for about 6 months and she had a big surprise; she was 6 months pregnant! We had some tart, brownies, wine (me) and hot chocolate (she) and catch up. She was also moving back to Finland due to her situation so these were goodbyes as well. All the best to you and good luck!
I think I deserved this little treat at the end of the day, because I had super healthy lunch. Norma Kamali's flagship store at W56th St. has opened up Wellness Cafe at the back of the store that sells all kind of organic olive oils, soaps and body oils, Organic Avenue's raw juices, shakes and soups, kale chips and Intelligent Nutrient's scents and chocolates. Just look at the ingredients in that juice above, super duper healthy! And taste was good. Not lying!
I fell in love with the scents ($50 each). They had about 7 different scents that you just spray on you, your hair, face, body, that serve different purposes such as focus, seductive, nurture, restore, inner calm and so on. I took few samples with me and I'm going to try to decide which one I need the most.

Groupon has quickly become one of my favorite deal sites and I find my myself buying all kind of stuff from them all the time because the deals are just so awesome. 
This time I couldn't resist a deal that offered 50% off of handmade candies from Papabubble in Soho. I picked one jar in banana flavor and another one in pineapple and they are sooo good. I really should not be eating any candy because just 3 days ago I was at the dentists' office getting cavities drilled and filled, but these jars are also very decorative.

We're not religious, but it's Good Friday and we all wanted to look pretty and dress for the occasion. I gave the Jersey to Moses so that he would feel a bit masculine. But our men are comfortable wearing pink anyway. 
We relaxed in the sunroom, some of us were napping and others reading "Stop aging, start living".
It's a program that promises to erase years from your face. It's all about the pH balance of your body through eating alkalizing foods. Once I get to the end and actually go through the diet I will report the progress.
Today I also got around to decorate and organize the house and tackle some little projects that been waiting for me. Some for weeks, some for months...
Decorative stickers, new office supplies and organizers, hanging some new mirrors in the foyer, new shower curtain, spray painting things white and so on.
Later husband brought me lunch from Meze Grill; falafel, tzatziki, olives, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and pickles. Yummy!
