MY STREETS

One of the biggest perks of my job is that we're located two blocks from Central Park. I just love winding down there for an hour and just forget about work, traffic and masses of people. During my lunch hour today I took a stroll around the Park drinking my chai. What a beautiful interruption from work.

This is my street. It's busy, loud and in midtown, but I know once I'll find another job and stop working here I'll miss it. Right now I wish I was working in downtown or the Village. Grass always seems greener on the other side, I know.

I've been able to get only 6 hours of sleep every night this week instead of the usual 8. I could use two hour daily nap, but for some reason once I get home there's so many things to do and all of a sudden I'm full of energy and won't take my nap. On top of that I never get to go to bed on time. So I catch up on my sleep during the weekends. Although I much rather get up early and go to yoga. Maybe this weekend...

This is my home street. It's nice, quiet change from NYC. I got to take some summery photos. As you may see, this one still has snow on the ground. Project for the weekend; update neighborhood photos.

Love,

TUESDAY STYLE

Summer office style. It is hot out and once I step out of this air conditioned office and take off my blazer I need something very light underneath it to be walking these streets.
I've become very conscious about burning my skin in the sun and just discovered the UVSunSense bracelet.  Here's how it works: While you're applying sunscreen, use a dab of lotion to coat the wristband where it says "Apply sunscreen to this side." The band will turn purple, indicating it's been activated. When you've absorbed too many harmful UV rays, the band morphs to brown signaling it's time to reapply. And when the words dissappear altogether, it's time to abort your tanning mission and run for cover. Buy a pack for less than $10 here.

SUNDAY PROMOTIONAL

Tomorrow I'm going to attend Gabrielle Bernstein's lecture "Mirroring" where I can hopefully get inspired to work for bettering me. Every one of her lectures that I've attended I've learned something and felt empowered afterwards. So I'm really looking forward to this one. More info on Gabrielle here.

On Monday, Exhale opens a new location at the Hotel Gansevoort. The mind-body spa will offer their famous Core Fusion classes and it also boasts a decadent water lounge and a spanking-new "wellbar," where you can get services like waxing, manis, and body scrubs. To celebrate the opening, check out one of the spa's complimentary classes on June 29 and 30. Call (212) 561-7402 to reserve a spot.

Enjoy film and music on the JCC’s spectacular rooftop terrace every Thursday in July. Events include jazz cellist Borislav Strulev, an interactive screening of Dirty Dancing, a screening of You Don’t Mess with the Zohan co-sponsored by Hummus Place and performances by bands Divhan and Coolooloosh. See www.jccmanhattan.org/uponroof for complete event listings, times and pricing.  5 Thursdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30  334 Amsterdam Ave @ 76th St.

I hate doing my own manicure and pedicure because of the amount of work it requires (taking off old polish, putting on new one without smudging it, waiting for it to dry, week later taking it off again etc...) and the outcome is never really that great. Peel off nail polish sounds like the thing for me so I'll be sure to give it a try.

Sula's Paint & Peel nail polish takes us back to that happy place. These good-for-you hues contain no formaldehyde, toluene or phthalates, as well as other cancer-linked ingredients found in standard polishes. Bonus: The lack of chemicals also means the paints are fume-free and won't damage nails. The polish takes just two minutes to dry and comes in 19 cheery shades. When you're ready for a new paint job, just peel the whole thing off in one strip.

Peace,

HEAT WAVE JAMAICAN STYLE

The heatwave is here and I've been chilling most of the day in our sunroom (wearing my souvenir shorts from Jamaica) going through all old magazines and saving the best articles, recipes and pictures. One day I will put them all together neatly for inspiration book.

For lunch  I went to get some Greek food from our local Greek Taverna. For appetizers we had few shots of the ginger wine we brought back from Jamaica. It's really sweet and you cannot  feel the kick of the ginger which is what I love about ginger, so it was bit of a disappointment.
I was trying to figure out what to do with the sunroom design wise. It's not appealing to me at all right now. I need to get ridd of the piano the previous owners left us (so if anyone needs one, feel free to pick it up), come up with some cool slipcover for the couch and armless armchair, buy lots of  throwpillows, paint the black coffee table white, art and plants.  I will work on the plan this week.
Unfortunately my weekend is already over, since I got to work on Sunday, but for the rest of you, make the best of it and ty to love every moment and be kind to the person next to you.

R.I.P. MICHAEL

As I'm sure all of you have already heard, Michael Jackson has passed away. I've been a huge fan since I was tiny kid so this touches me a lot. I was at the gym today doing my lunch hour cardio workout around 6.30pm and saw the news on the screen of my elliptical machine. It is so sad. He was just preparing for his big comeback tour wanting to prove that he is still big. Hoping to come bigger than ever. I was so looking forward to that.
Ok, lighter subjects to the end: Colors of the day. Sales lady at Express complimented me on my color picks. I really didn't even notice it this morning when I picked up my jewelry in the rush (I'm always in a rush in the mornings).

WHAT I WORE IN THE SUMMER RAIN

The rain just won't stop. It's not cold at all, it's actually pretty warm. I just had to wear the bright aqua scarf to brighten up my outfit a little along with the aqua bracelet and hairband. I'm not cool enough to wear all black. Yet.

ONE MO' 'BOUT MO' BAY

We stayed at a resort against my will (click on the photo to see it large). I like staying in places that are less grand and more down to earth, more local, less touristy. But "he" wanted all the amenities of a resort and privacy of a villa. Our room was amazing, but resort life got boring after few days. We're fortunate to have friends living in the area, so they took us around few times to see the real Mo Bay and how locals live.
This is our villa. It was located right at the beach front, so we had beautiful view of the ocean from our terrace. Every morning after waking up I just sat at the balcony for a moment looking at the eternity and taking deep breaths. True serenity. I wish I could start my mornings this style every day. I think I would be so much nicer and calmer person. Maybe I just need to create such area in our garden, during summer of course. Winter time I could utilize our sunroom to be the relaxation room. Need to come up with a plan for that.

JERK CHICKEN, GINGER BEER AND FRESH FRUITS

One of the great advantages traveling somewhere warm and tropical is the wide variety and availability of fresh fruits. I ate so much watermelon, mangoes, pineapple and kiwis and what I loved about the breakfast in our hotel is that they had fresh juice station where you would get your choice of juice mixed right in front of you from fresh cut fruits.

On the picture above was my usual morning juice mix. From the left we have celery-parsley-pineapple juice (green), carrot-mango juice (orange), beetroot juice (dark red) and fresh squeezed orange-grapefruit juice (yellow). I was in juice heaven with all this. My absolute favourite was the green juice. In normal life celery is my number one hated vegetable, but in this mixture it tasted really good with parsley giving it freshness and pineapple a hint of sweetness. I must try this at home.
As for other drinks, we had Jamaican ginger beers (love how strong the ginger in them is), Ting which is Jamaican grapefruit soda, rumpunch and Pina Coladas. At the airport coming back home we also discovered Jamaican ginger wine and bought few bottles of it, because I and "him" looove ginger. I will let you know how it is once we enjoy it.
Food was excellent outside the hotel. We ate in few roadside shacks and usually ordered either jerk chicken or curry chicken or "he" would order curry goat. They were usually served with fresh vegetables, yam and rice and peas. Very simple and very delicious. For snacks we had chicken, veggie or beef patties and of course fruits.

OUTDOOR SHOWERS

This never ending rain today brings my thoughts back to the tropical rains of Jamaica (I just checked the forecast for our area and I see rain and T-Storms for the next 7 days!). Not cool.  I guess I should call the Jamaican ones showers, they lasted only 15-45 minutes and were quickly dried by the hot sun. Not these 16 hour periods of hard rain that we have here in Northeast US.
During our trip I also discovered amazing way to shower, outdoors. Our suite had huge jacuzzi tub and fabulous outdoor shower. What a wonderful feeling showering under the clear blue sky and hot sunshine. Rocking it island style.

BYE BYE MO BAY! WE'LL BE BACK!

Yes, I'm back from my wonderful vacation in Jamaica. It was probably the best time I've had in years. Best time ever actually. Weather was lovely (no tornados or hurricanes), our accommodations were magnificent (just what you would expect from four star property) and what made it perfect was to spend quality time with "him". I've missed that. The grind of New York can be tough on newlyweds. No time to spend together.

I will write more about our trip soon, once I get about 6 loads of laundry done...

YA MON! JAMAICA CALLING.

Imagine me here, lying under the shade of the palm trees, gentle tropical breeze blowing through my hair, sipping some fresh made pina colada in the mornings, rumpunch in the evenings and enjoying the serenity of the ocean and the sky, just me and "him". No cell phones, no TV, no computer. Just us and the nature.

It's going to be a wonderful, much needed vacation. See you when I get back!

BJORN BORG PARTY

Yesterday was a fun filled day that included 1,5 hrs in the gym, 30 min relaxing and meditating in the sauna, shopping for my perfect gladiator sandals (and FINDING THEM!) as well as dinner at Soho Park (veggie burger and Brooklyn Lager) and Bjorn Borg party in their Soho Flagship store. They had DJ playing scandopop, open bar with champagne, wines and V Orange Vodka and ping pong tables. They were also giving out free underwear if you agreed to pose in them for the cameras and you'd get an extra pair on top of that. We played some ping pong, socialized, laughed and enjoyed the good times.

LIFE IS LIKE A RAINBOW. YOU NEED BOTH THE RAIN AND THE SUN TO MAKE ITS COLORS APPEAR.

It seems that it's raining all around the world. Very rainy beginning of June. I'm not the fan of rain at all; it makes my eyes red, my head heavy, my skin shiny and my hair flat. And I still haven't found my Marimekko "Unikko" rain boots that I would love to rock when it rains and pours. I got the umbrella (pictured above), but I need the boots to go with it.
Upper East Side in Manhattan has Marimekko concept store that I keep bugging every now and then to see if they would know anything about the Unikko boots, but I keep getting not sure, check back in a month- kinda answer. I even sent my mom on the mission in Finland to check with local Marimekko stores, but they don't have them either. Anybody knows where I can find these? I'm huge fan of Marimekko and every time I got family coming over to visit me from Finland I ask Marimekko products for souvenirs (along with liqorice and real dark rye bread).

DAY DREAMING AT WORK

Work is just torture now when I'm  day dreaming lying on the beach and drinking pina coladas. Maybe dancing to some reggae and a little scuba diving on the side.
Up next: wonderful news for pet owners of the great land of America.  If you've got the extra $, PetAirways is your solution! The pet-friendly airline is expected to launch on July 14th and will offer pet-exclusive flights from Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C.and the prices are not too bad. After all, you want what's best for your best friend. They also offer potty breaks for the pawsengers (that's cute way to say it) during flights that are longer than 2 hours. Their website also gives useful information on how to keep your dog or cat sane during the trip that can be very stressfull for their little hearts.

WEEKEND IS HERE

It is raining cats and dogs over here and I'm glad I don't have to drag myself outside. I'm going to stay home, snuggle with the kitties, cook some comfort food, jump on the trampoline and finish up some projects I have going on around the house.
.
I found this fun website some time ago and just noticed posting that me and "him" always argue about; spending more time outdoors. In Finland I'm used to spending every sunny day outdoors just walking around, going to sit in the park or whatever, as long as it's outdoors and I'm not going to waste the day being inside. But "he" doesn't quite think that way. Check it out at "Stuff white people like"
.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

BEACH DREAMING...

Next week we'll be flying off to the paradise. I can hardly wait. I'm trying to get few things done and bought before the trip and the list just keeps growing.
- few cute cover ups for hanging out in the resort and the beach
- few new sexy bikinis (all my old ones have suddenly gotten too small... That's just awesome...)
- dye my hair darker since sun has made it almost blond (note to self: call Sasha!)
- get spray tan (I got a hook up at the Hollywood Tan at my old neighborhood that gets me 50% off everything. "His" ex-girlfriend owns the place...)
- get my eyebrows done at Anastasia at Sephora. It's quite pricey, but I need to know if it's really that good as they say.
- if I have some extra cash I would like to get eyelash extensions. It would be so lovely not have to put any eye make up on. I'm not very good doing my make-up in the first place and on top of that I'm always in the rush, so this would make my life so much easier.
